Workspace list and settings

The steps for the tasks on these pages are in Manage workspaces. What each role may do is in Workspace roles.

The Workspaces control in the header:

  • lists the workspaces you can open, each with your role under its name;
  • keeps suspended workspaces in the list, marked Suspended;
  • opens the workspace you select;
  • offers Create workspace, which asks for a name of 1 to 100 characters. You become the owner of the new workspace, and the app switches to it. A new workspace starts empty;
  • links to Workspace settings.

The app’s home page / opens the workspace you last used in this browser, while you can still open it, and otherwise the first workspace in the list. Switching workspaces changes the remembered choice. With no workspace at all, the page explains how to create one from the header.

A suspended workspace opens a read-only page that says why it is suspended:

  • An Overvis administrator suspended it. It stays suspended until they enable it again.
  • The billing account paying for it is below its negative limit. The owner sees the account’s balance and limit, Open billing account (when they are a member of the account), and Change billing account.

The workspace runs again only when no reason applies. While it is suspended, its dashboards, reports, Setup, live controls, uploads, and CLI sync are unavailable, and the assistant works on its pages only at the Free level. Nothing is deleted: configuration, members, and API keys stay, and valid workspace API keys work again once it runs. Scheduled work missed meanwhile is skipped.

Before a balance suspension, while the paying billing account is below zero, every member sees the bar This workspace will be suspended soon, without amounts. Members of the billing account get Open billing account, and the workspace owner Change billing account. During the beta, a negative balance suspends no workspace.

Workspace settings (/workspaces/$workspaceId/settings) opens for every member. The workspace UUID is under the heading, with a copy button. The tabs depend on your role:

TabWho sees itContents
GeneralEvery memberName, branding, timezone and location, and Develop locally
MembersEvery memberMembers and invitations for admins and the owner; Leave workspace for everyone but the owner
LimitsEditors, admins, ownerAutomation and SMS limits
CLI keysEditors, admins, ownerWorkspace API keys of local copies
BillingAdmins, ownerThe billing account that pays for the workspace
Danger zoneOwnerDelete workspace

Admins and the owner rename the workspace; the name has 1 to 100 characters and appears in the switcher, in invitations, and in the folder name of later local pulls. Editors, admins, and the owner change the timezone and location.

The owner of a suspended workspace still gets the Billing settings, so they can move it to another billing account.

The Workspace logo card holds a Light theme logo, a Dark theme logo, and the Favicon. Admins and the owner upload and remove them; other members see the previews.

FileFormats and limitsShown as
LogoSVG up to 512 KiB, or PNG up to 1 MiB, 4096 pixels per side, and 4 million pixels20 pixels high in the app header, width by aspect ratio. A PNG is scaled down to fit 230 × 40 pixels
FaviconSame as the logoThe browser tab icon, converted to a 32 × 32 PNG without cropping
  • A theme without a logo, or whose logo cannot load, shows Overvis HMI in the header. Sign-in pages always show Overvis HMI.
  • One favicon serves both themes, throughout the app while the workspace is active. Without one, the Overvis favicon is used.
  • The trash button beside Upload logo or Upload favicon removes that file.
  • A logo that cannot be shown is marked as unavailable, with Remove logo.

Branding files sync with hmi pull and hmi push. Only admins and the owner can push them.

FileContent
branding/logo-light.svg, branding/logo-light.pngLight theme logo, one format at a time
branding/logo-dark.svg, branding/logo-dark.pngDark theme logo, one format at a time
branding/favicon.pngFavicon: a 32 × 32 PNG of at most 512 KiB

A push of other file changes is refused while a logo is unavailable, for example because both formats exist for one theme; remove it first. A local workspace shows branding changes before they are pushed.

  • The timezone is an IANA name, such as Europe/Warsaw. A new workspace takes the timezone of its creator’s browser; one created through the API without a timezone uses UTC.
  • The location is optional: latitude −90 to 90 and longitude −180 to 180, both together. Set it on the map or by entering the coordinates. Clear location removes both on the next save. Moving the pin does not change the timezone.
  • Automations use the timezone and location for time-of-day and sunrise and sunset triggers, and for the time and sun functions in formulas. Other timestamps in the app use your browser’s timezone, and reports have their own timezone setting.
  • Both sync with hmi pull and hmi push.

For editors, admins, and the owner. The card shows a command to run in an empty folder, with Copy command. The command works once, for about 30 minutes; reloading the page shows a new one.

The command downloads the workspace, installs its dependencies, and prints how to start the local app. Each pull creates a workspace API key for that copy, which reaches only this workspace, with your role. The key is listed under CLI keys here and under Local workspace keys in Account settings → API keys. See Pull a workspace and Local workspace.

  • Admins and the owner invite an email as View only, Operator, Editor, or Admin.
  • An invitation expires after seven days. Resend sends a new link and restarts the seven days; Revoke stops the link.
  • Inviting the email of an existing account adds it at once. Other invitees accept through the invitation link.
  • Role changes, removal, and leaving follow the membership rules.

Automation limits apply to every automation and alarm rule when it is saved. Admins and the owner change them; editors see them.

LimitDefaultWhat it bounds
Maximum steps per run1000The most steps one automation run may execute
Minimum trigger interval, s10The shortest polling, run, period, and time-of-day interval it may use
Maximum writes per minute60The most parameter writes it may make in a minute

Lowering a limit does not change saved automations. The tab lists those over the new limits; each must be within them the next time it is saved. hmi check uses the limits of the last pull, and hmi push never changes them.

SMS spending limit, for admins and the owner, shows this month’s SMS spending and an optional monthly limit in euros. Once the month’s SMS reach the limit, no more SMS are sent for the workspace until the next calendar month (UTC), and its owner and admins are told once. Email, Telegram, and in-app notifications keep working.

Local CLI access lists the workspace API keys of local copies, one per pull, with their label (often the computer’s name), when each was created and last used, and who created it. Editors see and Revoke their own keys; admins and the owner see and revoke everyone’s. A revoked key disconnects that local copy at once.

Admins and the owner see the billing account that pays for the workspace. The owner can move the workspace to another billing account they own or manage; the change takes effect at the start of the next hour. The tab links to the workspace’s Setup → Stored data. See Billing accounts.

The owner deletes the workspace here, after a confirmation. Its configuration and data are deleted for every member. The last workspace can be deleted too; the app then opens another workspace or the empty account state.
