Notifications

Notifications about your workspaces always reach you in the app. Email, SMS, and Telegram are extra channels you choose under Account settings → Notifications. The steps to set them up are in Set up notifications.

The bell in the header shows how many notifications are unread. It has two tabs: Notifications and Messages. It opens on Notifications while any are unread. A new notification also pops up while the app is open; Open on it goes to the page concerned.

The tab lists the past 90 days, newest first: severity (information, warning, or urgent), the message in your current language, the time in your browser’s time zone, the workspace, and Open. Filters narrow it by workspace and severity; Load more shows older ones.

  • Unread notifications have a dot. Looking at the unfiltered list while the browser tab is active marks the notifications shown as read. A filtered list marks nothing read. Opening one from a pop-up marks it read.
  • Read state belongs to your account, so it is the same on every device.
  • A workspace you can no longer open shows as Unavailable workspace, without a link.
  • Notification settings at the bottom opens Account settings → Notifications. Nothing set there changes what reaches the bell.

Some notifications must be dismissed. They stay in a banner at the top of every page, on every device, until you select Dismiss or they expire. Several collapse into one banner with arrows and a count, most urgent first. A dismissed notification stays in the list with the time you dismissed it, or Expired or Withdrawn when it expired or stopped applying first, such as a suspension notice once the workspace runs again.

Announcements from the Overvis team, such as planned maintenance or a change of terms, arrive the same way, in your language when it has a translation and in English otherwise. Some are also sent by email, following your email settings.

Messages is the history of pop-up feedback in this browser, also in a local workspace. It keeps the newest 100 messages from the past seven days, newest first, with their time, severity, workspace, and an optional link.

  • A dot marks unseen messages. A message becomes seen when its row is visible while the panel and the browser tab are active. Mark all seen marks the rest, and Clear removes the history.
  • The history stays in this browser and is the same in all its tabs. Each signed-in account has its own. Nothing in it is sent to the server.

Besides alarms, billing, and the assistant’s chats, which have their own notifications:

  • Your long jobs. A Modbus device search or identification, or a PDF or spreadsheet you asked to process, notifies you when it finishes or fails, with a link to the result. If you are still watching the result when it finishes, no notification is sent.
  • Workspace suspension. Every member is told when a workspace is suspended and when it runs again. See Suspended workspaces.
  • A device connected elsewhere. Owners, admins, and editors are warned when an MC252 of their workspace is connected in another workspace too. The link opens the device’s status page, where Disconnect… removes the other connections.

Alarm notifications are described under Alarms.

Account settings → Notifications has these cards, top to bottom.

CardContents
Language and time zoneNotification language and Time zone for notifications and account emails. They do not change the app’s language
EmailAn on/off switch and Minimum severity: Info, Warning (the default), or Urgent
SMSThe mobile number and its confirmation, an on/off switch, and Minimum severity. See SMS
TelegramConnect Telegram or the connected Telegram account, an on/off switch, and Minimum severity. See Telegram
WorkspacesOne switch per workspace. Off means its notifications reach you only in the app
  • Switches save at once; each Minimum severity has its own save button. Less severe notifications reach you only in the app.
  • Sign-in codes, invitations, and security notices are always sent by email, whatever these settings say, and never by SMS or Telegram.
  • Notices that a workspace was suspended or runs again arrive even from a muted workspace.
  • Changes to channels, severities, and muted workspaces also apply to notifications waiting to be sent. Language and time zone changes apply to notifications not yet sent.

The languages are English, Polski, Deutsch, Українська, and Русский.

  • Enter the number in international format, with + and the country code. Numbers in the EU and EEA, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine are supported.
  • The confirmation code has 6 digits and works for 10 minutes. It stops working after 5 wrong entries. Send a new code works after a minute, and a few codes per day are allowed.
  • SMS notifications stay off until you turn the switch on.
  • Change number keeps the current number until the new one is confirmed. Remove number deletes the number and turns SMS off.
  • An SMS carries the workspace name, the title, and the start of the message, in at most two SMS parts: up to 306 characters of plain Latin text, or 134 when the text has other letters, such as Cyrillic or Polish ł and ń. The rest is in the app.
  • Each SMS part is charged to the workspace the notification is about. The workspace’s SMS spending limit can stop SMS for the rest of a month.
  • Connect Telegram makes a link that works once, for 15 minutes; New link replaces it. Whatever Telegram account opens the link is connected.
  • Press Start in the chat with the Overvis HMI bot. The bot answers with the account it connected, and the settings page shows the Telegram account.
  • An account has one Telegram account; connecting another replaces it. A Telegram account connected to a different Overvis HMI account is refused until it is disconnected there.
  • Connecting turns Telegram notifications on. The minimum severity is Warning the first time; when you reconnect, the severity you chose before is kept. Connecting and disconnecting each send a security notice to your email.

The bot works only in private chats. Its commands:

CommandEffect
/wsChooses the workspace the chat’s commands act on; with one workspace it is chosen for you
/helpLists the commands and shows the current workspace
/unbindDisconnects this Telegram account. Blocking the bot disconnects it too

A notification that links to a page shows an Open in Overvis HMI button. Alarm notifications link to their workspace’s Alarms page.

  • They come in the notification language, with times as YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm:ss in the notification time zone.
  • The subject names the severity: notification, warning, or urgent.
  • They name the workspace and link to the page concerned.
  • At most ten are sent per fixed ten-minute period, for example 10:00–10:10. The rest of the period arrives as one summary email per workspace when the period ends.

Account emails, such as sign-in codes, invitations, and security notices, name the affected account or workspace and say whether you need to act. Security notices name the action, such as adding a passkey. Deadlines in emails are in UTC. If a security notice names an action you do not recognize, see Respond to a security notice.
